Indie metallers Therapy? kicked off their ‘Infernal Love + More’ mini-tour in Dublin last night (10th Dec 2015) with a blistering set that saw the band perform the whole of their seminal 1995 release ‘Infernal Love’ in front of a packed audience.

Playing the first of two consecutive nights at the city’s Button Factory venue, the trio were in explosive form as they ripped through the album in its original running order, before going on perform some of their best-loved material. As well as channelling their history, the band also showcased tracks from this year’s well-received ‘Disquiet’ album.

Taking to the stage following a riveting set from legendary anarcho post-punks The Membranes, the Anglo-Irish rockers burst into life with the schizophrenic ‘Epilepsy’, before following it up with album lead-off single ‘Stories’.

Introducing the latter, frontman Andy Cairns said that the song, and album had been conceived under a cloud; “When we recorded this I was a wee bit f****d up”, he confessed, adding; “But let’s turn those dark thoughts into something happy.”

Going on to play the work in sequence, from the twisted ‘Jude The Obscene’ – “This is for anyone that’s ever been to Co. Antrim in Northern Ireland”, to the matriarch upsetting ‘Bad Mother’ – “When my mum got a copy of the album she didn’t speak to me for a month!”, the three-piece proved just why ‘Infernal Love’ is still one of their most enduring works.

Ending the first half of the show with the breakneck speed of ’30 Seconds’, which highlighted the incredible talents of drummer Neil Cooper, the band went on to round out the evening with a selection of classic tracks, as well as new songs from this year’s ‘Disquiet’ release.

Kicking off with 2015 single ‘Still Hurts’, Cairns and co. then ripped through some of their earliest material, including a venomous ‘Potato Junkie’ and a razor-sharp ‘Teethgrinder’.

Concluding with the pairing of two of their best-known tracks – ‘Screamager’ and ‘Nowhere’ – Therapy? ended the night on a ‘Troublegum’-frenzied high.

The ‘Infernal Love + More’ Irish tour continues tonight when Therapy? return to the Button Factory in Dublin. The band then play a homecoming show at Belfast’s Limelight on Saturday night (12th Dec 2015).

Due to public demand more ‘Infernal Love’ dates have been added for a much wider U.K. tour, which begins in February.
