Niall Horan returned home on Friday night (1st Sept 2023) for the biggest show of his career, at Electric Picnic. Playing second only to Billie Eilish, the Mullingar man said it was “absolutely insane” to be playing such a prestigious gig.

Arriving on stage to a genuine hero's welcome, Horan was drowned out by the crowd’s enthusiasm. It was, however, short lived as a power outage meant that the One Direction star and band had to beat a hasty exit until it was fixed. Thankfully, for the fans, it was a minor fault, and on second attempt, the show kicked off in bombastic style with ‘Nice to Meet Ya’.

Following up with fan favourite ‘Heaven’, before an appropriate ‘On a Night Like Tonight’ one telling moment saw the singer shake his head in disbelief, as the huge arena crowd sang back every word.

Greeting the audience, the clearly moved performer said; "Wow! This is absolutely insane. I cannot believe I'm here. This is just absolutely ridiculous. I haven't played a showing Ireland in five years, and to come back to the Midlands and to be at Electric Picnic with all you beautiful people, I can't tell you what it means".

Admitting to feeling anxious ahead of the show, he continued; "I don't think I've ever been so nervous for a gig, but I know you've got my back. I've been waiting for this night for the last year and a half, and I want it to be the best night of my life".

Launching into a euphoric 'This Town', he said simply; "it's good to be home".

Earlier in the day, indie sensations Wet Leg packed the electric arena. Playing tracks from their self-titled debut including singles 'Chaise Longue' and 'Too Late Now', the duo proved an early EP highlight for many.

Taking place at Stradbally, Co. Laois, Electric Picnic is Ireland’s largest music and arts festival. Happening from 1st - 3rd September, this year's event is also set to feature performances by Fred Again, Paolo Nutini, The Script, and The Killers.

Electric Picnic continues on Saturday  2nd September, with Idles, Johnny Marr, Tom Odel and a host of others set to perform.
