Following uncertainty when previous owners TeamRock collapsed at the end of last year, Metal Hammer's Golden Gods Awards is set to return. Sponsored by Orange Amplification, the spectacular event, which is a highlight in the metal calendar, will take place on Monday 12th June. Voting for the awards is now open here, and a full list of nominees available below.
For more than 30 years, Metal Hammer has been the biggest heavy metal magazine on the planet, and after a turbulent end to 2016, and with Future plc buying them in January, the brand is delighted to be cementing its triumphant comeback in style. On Monday, June 12, the IndigO2 at The O2 will play host to the 15th annual Metal Hammer Golden God Awards in association with Orange Amplification, capping a whirlwind six months that saw the magazine make international headlines after returning bigger and better than ever earlier this year.
Fozzy front man and WWE megastar Chris Jericho – who also appeared at this year's Wrestlemania event in front of 70,000 people – will be coming straight from playing this year's Download Festival to host what will undoubtedly be the biggest party of the year! After fans, bands, festival organisers, magazines, websites and record labels across the rock community pulled together in a show of solidarity for Hammer to help us come back all guns blazing, we're very excited to be paying back some of that amazing goodwill with a night that no one will ever forget.
"In December, we were told that Metal Hammer may never exist again," comments Editor Merlin Alderslade. "What happened in the weeks and months after didn't just show the power and strength of our scene when we come together, but showed the world that Hammer is a central part of our community and can still make amazing things happen like no other mag can. We were blown away by the amazing support everyone showed us, and with the magazine now back on shelves and stacked with the best in heavy music every month, we can't wait to raise a glass to celebrate an amazing story and cement our comeback with a few thousand dear friends. You made this possible, and it's time to show the world what we can do. Let's party."
Chris Jericho, who also hosted the 2016 event says, “Metal Hammer is back and so is Chris Jericho! And it's gonna be amazing to host the comeback party on the 15th anniversary of the Golden Gods! Metal Hammer call themselves the Defenders Of The Faith and I call myself Ian Hill, so it's a perfect match yet again. Metal Hammer is a torch bearer for metal and rock around the world – without them heavy rock as we know it would be an entirely different place… a boring, stinky, One Direction-loving place. F*ck that, Let's rock!!"
In addition to the public vote, Editorial-chosen awards include Riff Lord presented by Century Media, Defender Of The Faith presented by Orange Amplification, Album Of The Year, Icon, Inspiration, Spirit Of Hammer and The Golden God.
