JD & The Straight Shot rattled attendees at Cork City’s ‘Live At The Marquee’ on Wednesday night (29th June 2016), with a forty-five minute set of classic Americana Country Blues. The respected act were in the Rebel City as special guest to former Eagles lynchpin Don Henley.

Taking to the stage at 7.15pm, the band lead by main man James Dolan enraptured the gathering crowd from the off, with a selection of songs from this years’ ‘Ballyhoo!’ release, as well as a number of fan favourites and movie soundtrack classics.

Ably backed by a six piece band that included the close harmony singing of vocalist / guitarist Erin McCarley and guitarist / vocalist Marc Copely, as well as the shuffling rhythms of percussionist Joe Magistro, JD set the mood for the evening, conjuring a laid back atmosphere that acted as the perfect appetiser for the headlining Don Henley.

With a set that ranged from the jaunty bluegrass of ‘Empty’ to the seductive swing of brand new song ‘I Know You Know I Know’, the Cork crowd were treated to a lesson in down home Americana from the New York act.

Revealing himself meanwhile to be as much a raconteur as a singer, Dolan’s onstage persona saw him go to great lengths to explain the origins of each song. Introducing ‘Violet’s Song’ – a track written for Meryl Streep’s character in 2013 movie ‘August: Osage County’ - the singer said that the characters in the film had, in his own words 'everything': “they’ve got alcoholism, they’ve got drug addiction, they’ve got infidelity”, he explained before jokingly adding; “it’s just like my house!”

JD & The Straight Shot’s appearance at ‘Live At The Marquee’ came as their run of European dates opening for Don Henley draws to a close. The band play two more shows with the celebrated Eagles songwriter, arriving at Dublin’s 3Arena on Friday night (1st July), before ending the jaunt in London on 3rd July at the British Summer Time Festival.
