Following on from September's appearance at Electric Picnic, and their first Irish show in almost two decades, post grunge icons Garbage are set to return to Dublin, for a gig at Iveagh Gardens on 18th July 2019. Tickets for this date, go on sale this Wednesday 19th December, from Ticketmaster.
Garbage - Shirley Manson, Duke Erikson, Steve Marker and Butch Vig - celebrated two decades of their mega-selling ‘Version 2.0’ album earlier this year, and visited Ireland for only the second time in their career. Taking to the Stradbally stage at Electric Picnic in September, lead singer Manson said; “The last time we were invited to play in Ireland was twenty years ago, and we’re so indebted to Electric Picnic for inviting us”.
The multi-million selling act have been together as a band for 25 years. After forming in Madison, Wisconsin, Garbage released their self-titled debut in 1995, going on to sell more than 4 million copies. The band's unique sound and provocative visual aesthetic inspired massive worldwide attention and success. Their follow up, 'Version 2.0' was released in 1998 which also went on to sell over 4 million copies, topping charts all over the world and garnering multiple Grammy Award nominations, including Album Of The Year.
The band spent the next two years touring the world. They topped off their album campaign with the recording of the theme song for the James Bond movie 'The World Is Not Enough.'
In 2001 Garbage released the platinum-selling 'Beautifulgarbage', later followed by 'Bleed Like Me' in 2005, the latter of which earned the band its highest chart position of No. 4 on the Billboard Top 200 Album Chart.
After a seven year hiatus, the band released their fifth studio album 'Not Your Kind of People' in 2012 on their own independently-run record label, STUNVOLUME. The album was named one of Rolling Stone magazine's Top 50 Albums of 2012 and was hailed as the; "alternative to everything," by Pitchfork.
In 2017 they released their universally well-received book, 'This Is The Noise That Keeps Me Awake', shortly before embarking upon a Co-headline tour across North America with legendary post-punk band Blondie. They hit the road again in 2018, touring throughout Europe, North America and Mexico to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their beloved second record, Version 2.0. They will be spending most of the first half of 2019 in the studio, working on their as-yet untitled 7th record.
