Electric Picnic 2022 Closes on Glorious High.

Electric Picnic closed out on a glorious high on Sunday Night (4th September 2022) with the inclement weather abating, and glorious sunshine returning as the 2022 event reached its final day. Taking place at Stradbally, Co. Laois, from 2nd - 4th September, Electric Picnic is Ireland's largest music and arts festival.

The festival's final day followed on from Friday's opening, which saw EP return following an enforced three-year absence, and Saturday, which saw the event thunder on despite the elements.

Taking to the 3 All For Music stage in the early afternoon, Belfast diva Bronagh Gallagher's set was one of Sunday's best kept secrets. With the tent slowly filling up as people were drawn in by the sounds, the singer's soulful pop was the perfect start for the festival weary on their last day.

Over on the main stage, The Academic proved just as popular as Picture This had the day before, with their euphoric set attracting a huge crowd to the main arena. Subtilty inserting a lyric about going "back to Stradbally" during 'Mixtape 2003',  it was clear that the youthful act were enjoying their moment on stage as much as the sizable crowd were.

Continuing the Irish band assault, The Coronas arrived onstage to a deafening welcome. Igniting one of the loudest singalongs of the day with opener 'Just Like That', the Dublin act proved one of the most popular acts at the festival. Keeping it in the family front man Danny O'Reilly's mum Mary Black joined the band for a run through of her expressive anthem 'A Woman's Heart' as the band's set reached its climax.

Over in the Electric Arena meanwhile, troubadour James Vincent McMorrow seemed delighted to be back on stage in Ireland. "Hello, this is nice to be here. Its been a minute since I played a festival in Ireland, so this is cool", he stated casually as he arrived on stage. With his ethereal sounds filling the marquee, his was one of the more pensive sets of the weekend.

As night fell it was left to Northern Ireland million sellers Snow Patrol - who wasted no time in going through their greatest hits, including opener 'Chocolate' - and indie superstars Arctic Monkeys to see out what had been a triumphant return for Electric Picnic.

Speaking at a press conference earlier in the day, organiser and Festival Republic boss Melvin Benn said of 2022's event; "It's been absolutely glorious. One of the amazing things about EP is the spirit, the craic, and it is touchable, it’s different, it’s identifiable. And of course, amazing as it is what we present on the stage and people ultimately come for that, but the participation of the crowd and their enjoyment of the festival, when those two collide, then it really works. So it’s the two colliding that make it work – the audience and the entertainment is all one, it’s just glorious.”

Electric Picnic returns to Stradbally in early September 2023. Tickets go on sale via Ticketmaster on Saturday 10th September at 9.00am. In an Electric Picnic first, tickets will be entirely digital for next year. Registration for the loyalty scheme is now open, ahead of tickets going on sale, where Picnickers can register for a discount for next year’s festival.
