Duff McKagan
has enthused about his Irish heritage, and the experience of performing in Ireland. The Guns ‘n’ Roses bassist, whose forthcoming solo tour includes a slot at Electric Picnic in Co.Laois, made the comments speaking to eonmusic at a press event which was held in London on Thursday (25th April 2019).

Duff was speaking while promoting new solo release 'Tenderness'. The album, which is  due for release on 31st May 2019, sees McKagan reflecting on his experiences travelling the globe over two and a half years on Guns N’ Roses’  Not In This Lifetime tour.  Encountering heartbreak, anger, fear, confusion and divide on his travels during this tumultuous time in world history, the Loaded band leader funnelled a collective hurt into the songs.

The set, which features  Shooter Jennings sees the bassist channelling the likes of Lou Reed and David Bowie. Speaking about the album's left-field sound, Duff told those gathered at the event; “Hopefully it’ll open up a new audience. It’s song-based, and these are songs that I really believe in.”

Speaking to eonmusic, McKagan, who is an Irish passport-holder went on to talk about the perks of being Irish. Said Duff; “Do you know it’s the most-liked passport in the world?!”

Talking about his previous visits to the country, the bass player recalled Guns ‘n’ Roses first ever gig in Ireland, when they headlined the Slane event in May 1992. “I do have a lot of family”, he laughed; “The first time Guns played there I had like, one hundred and twenty cousins [that showed up]. I have a sizeable family”.

When pressed on whether his guest-list for his Electric Picnic appearance on Saturday 31st August would sizeable, he responded; “I’ve got it managed now to just my immediate cousins, and then we’ll take it from there”.

Duff's solo plans come as Guns 'n' Roses 'Not In This Lifetime...' tour shows little sign of slowing down. The jaunt, which included a return to Slane in 2017, 25 years after making their debut, is now one of the highest grossing tours of all time, earning an estimated $563,300,000 over 159 dates.
