David Gilmour is set to return to Arena di Verona, Italy, having stunned a packed crowd there this past September, on 10th and 11th July as part of his European summer tour 2016. The Roman amphitheatre is one of a number of decorative Italian venues on the tour that will carry echoes of Pink Floyd’s infamous 1971 performance at Pompeii - not least Gilmour's return to the same legendary venue.
The former Pink Floyd guitarist and vocalist will be taking to the stage in the Northern Italian city wrapping up the first leg of the tour, which is also making a stop off at as Rome's Circus Maximus, as well as Pompeii’s Anfiteatro Di Scavi, scene of the celebrated live release.
Gilmour’s tour kicked off in the Polish city of Wroclaw on 25th June, with fans treated to tracks from all aspects of the icon’s illustrious catalogue. As well as focusing on latest album ‘Rattle That Lock’, the guitarist has been digging deep into the Pink Floyd catalogue during his set, pulling out ‘Meddle’ classic ‘One Of These Days’ for the first time in twenty-two years. A number of Floyd favourites have also been featured, including ‘Wish You Were Here’, ‘Comfortably Numb’, and ‘Run Like Hell’.
As well as the upcoming Italian dates, the tour is set to feature shows in France, Germany and Belgium, before culminating in five nightss at London's Royal Albert Hall between 23rd and 30th September. The full list of dates can be viewed below.
The 2016 dates come in support of 2015 release 'Rattle That Lock'. Gilmour's fourth solo release, the album follows 2006's celebrated 'On An Island'.
