D.A.R.K., the alt rock three-piece featuring Cranberries singer Dolores O'Riordan and former Smiths' bassist Andy Rourke, have postponed their upcoming European tour. The news comes as the release of the band's debut album 'Science Agrees' has been pushed back until late August.
Tha band had been due to kick off the jaunt in the intimate confines of Dolan's in Limerick on 13th May, as well as playing a further Irish date at Whelan's in Dublin 16th May. They will now play Dolan's on 16th September and Whelan's on 19th September.
The news comes as the Cranberries official website has been updated to include only the cryptic message 'News coming soon...'.
Explaining the decision to cancel the dates which were due to begin in just over a weeks' time, the band have released the following statement: “To all our fans we are so sorry to announce that we have to postpone our forthcoming tour until September due to the last minute unavailability of our lead guitarist and the deferral of the release of our debut album until late August. All tickets already purchased will be valid for the relevant rescheduled shows in September. For those of you who cannot make it to our rescheduled shows full refunds will be given. We sincerely regret this and hope to see you at our shows in September.”
The trio, completed by vocalist Olé Koretsky, were due to take off on a short European run that also takes in dates in The U.K., France, Germany, Italy and Spain.
D.A.R.K. has been described as an "unlikely collaboration" for Limerick born vocalist O'Riordan. Dolores, who will be returning to the stage in her home town for the Limerick date, is most famously known as the singer of The Cranberries. Having sold over 40 million albums, the front woman has also worked with the likes of Angelo Badalamenti and Jah Wobble.
Andy Rourke meanwhile is best known as the inimitable bass player in one of the most important British bands ever, The Smiths. He has also worked with Pretenders, Ian Brown, Sinead O’Connor and Badly Drawn Boy.
Completing the line-up Olé Koretsky is the most anonymous member of the combo, as a little known songwriter, producer and DJ based in New York.
'Science Agrees' is now slated for a late august release and can be pre-ordered via pledgemusic, Itunes, andAmazon. The album's first single 'Curvy' can be viewed below.
