Legendary Long Island rockers Blue Öyster Cult have confirmed their first ever Irish date. Appearing at Dublin's Academy on Thursday 28th July 2016, the show will see the band celebrating the 40th anniversary of the release of their seminal 'Agents Of Fortune' album, by performing it in full at the special show.

Marking the landmark milestone since the original 1976 release of  'Agents Of Fortune' on Columbia Records, the legendary act rockers will be jetting in from New York City to play their first ever show in Ireland. Featuring a performance of the complete  'Agents Of Fortune' album, the show will also include a full set of powerful classics from a back catalogue spanning over four decades.

Comments the band: “It seems unbelievable that after 44 years on tour we’ve never played Ireland. Having waited a lifetime to play there, we are extremely excited to be presenting this very special show for our debut live performance”.

Blue Öyster Cult’s platinum-selling fourth studio album included the hit single '(Don't Fear) The Reaper', which is arguably still one of the most haunting and recognised tracks in rock history.

Speaking exclusively to eonmusic via gigsandfestivals in 2015, founder member Eric Bloom said of the iconic track's longevity:  "There’s a ‘Play The Cowbell’ contest in Michigan where you play along with ‘(Don’t Fear) The Reaper’. They want to see how many people they can get. That skit from 2000, that ‘More Cowbell’ thing on Saturday Night Live with Will Ferrell helped the song to live on. It’s fifteen years ago already, but that certainly gave the song some extra punch".

The band features core original members Bloom and guitarist / vocalist Donald 'Buck Dharma' Roeser, with a very special guest appearance from co-founding member Albert Bouchard on percussion, guitar and vocals who was instrumental in writing the early material. The line-up is completed by guitarist / keysman Richie Castellano, bassist Kasim Sulton and drummer Jules Radino.

Blue Öyster Cult have been a major heavy metal influence on many other acts, such as Metallica, and were listed in VH1's countdown of the greatest hard rock bands of all time.

Tickets for Blue Öyster Cult at The Academy go on sale 24th May 24th at 10am priced €40 from ticketmaster & outlets nationwide.
