Bloodstock Open Air, which takes place in Catton Park, Derbyshire from 11 - 14 August 2016, has added a further list of acts to its already bulging schedule. Joining Headliners Slayer, Mastodon and Twisted Sister, will be suited death metal overlords Akercocke, blues rockers Desert Storm, and thrashers Divine Chaos. The news comes as details of the finals of this years' 'Metal 2 The Masses' events, and the first of the acts taking to the 'New Blood' stage have been revealed.

While stoner five-piece Desert Storm and respected thrashers Divine Chaos will both be appearing on Sunday, newly re-grouped British death metal overlords, Akercocke will be joining Friday’s main stage bill. The Bloodstock show will be the trio's first since their reformation.

Says frontman Jason Mendonca; “Akercocke have returned after 5 years absence from the live circuit. We are reinvigorated by the return of our original guitarist Paul Scanlan and the ranks are completed by Dam front man Nathanael Underwood on bass guitar. Following the great experience the band enjoyed in 2008, we are proud to return to the Bloodstock main stage for a second time. Expect fan favourites from the past and killer new tunes from the present. See you down the front."

Details of the final ‘Metal 2 The Masses' events - which aim to find the best new bands in the country - have also been announced. Offering a much south after slot at the Midlands' event, the winners will join the first acts which have just been revealed for the 'New Blood' stage. After throwing their hat in the ring via CD applications, London doomsters Poseidon, Bristol’s darkly melodic Mordrake, Belfast metal beasts Rabid Bitch Of The North and Austria’s Rest In Fear have all snared themselves a slot at the 2016 event.

The ‘Metal 2 The Masses’ finals promise not only to be a fun night, there will be a chance at each event to win weekend tickets to Bloodstock, a case of Hobgoblin Ale, and various other Bloodstock related prizes. A full list of 'Metal 2 The Masses' events can be viewed below.

There is however still time to enter to win a spot on the 'New Blood' stage. Potential acts have until 8th July to upload their video to Hobgoblin’s Video Upload site. An outright winner will land a slot at Bloodstock, while a selection of runners up will win airplay for their band’s video on Scuzz TV.

Now in its twelfth year as an outdoor event, Bloodstock is one of the U.K.'s most popular metal events.
Acts set to appear at the 2016 happening include headliners, Twisted Sister, who will be playing their last ever UK show, progressive metal leviathans Mastodon, and angels of death Slayer. Joining them will be special guests Gojira and Anthrax, with the weekend set to feature the likes of Fear Factory, Corrosion of Conformity, Paradise Lost, Diamond Head, Dragonforce and more.

Weekend tickets for Bloodstock Open Air 2016 with camping, plus various VIP packages are available now  priced from £139 (+ booking fee). For more information visit the official Bloodstock site.
