Exclusive: Billy Gibbons has revealed that he is set to appear on the forthcoming album by Queens of the Stone Age. The ZZ Top founder, who made the revelation speaking to eonmusic at Hellfest in France, also disclosed that Dave Grohl has been working with the desert rock band for the first time since 2013.

Exclusive: Billy Gibbons has revealed that he is set to appear on the forthcoming album by Queens of the Stone Age. The ZZ Top founder, who made the revelation while speaking to eonmusic at Hellfest in France, also disclosed that Dave Grohl has been working with the desert rock band, for the first time since 2013.
The news came on the second day of the annual event, which is taking place in Clisson, northeast France, from 21st - 23rd June 2019, which saw ZZ Top perform as part of their 50th Anniversary tour.
Speaking on what was the first anniversary of the passing of Pantera founder Vinnie Paul, eonmusic asked Gibbons what his memories of the Abbot brothers - Vince and Dimebag Darrel, who passed away on 8th December 2004 - were. Commenting that they were "lovely guys", Billy said: "Well, that's a good question. I just met the wife, Darrell's wife [Rita Haney]."
It was then that the Texan revealed that he had been working with Josh Homme and co, and that Dave Grohl would be making a return to the Queens' drum stool for the first time since performing on landmark release '...Like Clockwork', in 2013. "Just one month ago I was making a record with Queens of the Stone Age", said Gibbons; "and Dave Grohl was also taking part and he decided to have a big barbecue. So there was this interesting gathering. So, we spent one hour telling stories, great stories remembering these lovely guys."
Asked to clarify if the work was for an actual Queens of the Stone Age album, rather than one of Homme's collaborative 'Desert Sessions' projects, Gibbons confirmed it was, stating; "I was talking with Josh just yesterday, and I was very excited"
Going on to talk about the session, the singer and guitarist said; "We had gone to the desert to work on just a couple of tracks, and I was outside, and Josh came out of the studio, and he had this box, and it was making some strange noise, and I said, "hey, what is that", and he goes; "I dont know, I just found it"; I said; "Don't touch a thing; were going to use it for the song!" So that's how it started."
The work is set to be released before the end of the year, with Billy concluding; "He's completed it. I think that he said he wants to put it out Halloween. It'll be good."
Queens of the Stone Age's last LP 'Villains' was released in 2017, and saw the band teaming up with producer Mark Ronson.
