Why Do Singers Write Gambling Songs

Music and gambling are widely associated with each other. Whether it’s obvious or not, your gambling experience may change depending on the music you listen to while gambling. It’s because your brain recognizes common patterns in your environment that may either give you comfort or distract you from whatever you’re doing.
The feeling is the same when you smell a certain perfume that may be memorable for you or you may associate with a person, or an unforgettable scene you watched from a movie.

There’s a strong connection between music and gambling
If you walk inside casinos, it’s impossible to miss the music playing on the speakers throughout the gaming area or you may see some players wearing headphones concentrating on their games. Apparently, that’s because there’s a strong link between music and gambling, and psychology backs that claim.

In an observational study, it was concluded that music may play a vital role in the acquisition, development, and as well as maintenance of the gambling behaviour of players. For instance, slot machines are more appealing depending on the background music or the music from the machine itself.

Given that fact, singers are more likely to write gambling songs as they have higher chances to be played in casinos on repeat.

The strong link between music and gambling can easily be considered as the primary reason why singers or musicians make gambling music.

More reasons are the following:

Soundtrack for gambling themed films
Gambling-themed movies are guaranteed to sell among a huge chunk of the audience population. With that, stories related to the gambling industry are always made. And when you make gambling-themed movies, you may need to make sure that the soundtrack is also related, not only to the story but also to the gambling itself.

For example, the song Easy Money by Billy Joel was used in the 1983 movie with the same title. Many loved this song, not only for its melody but also for the whole message of the lyrics of the song that would resonate with all gamblers. That makes the song relatable to everyone. Also, who doesn’t appreciate Billy Joel?

Hence, having a powerful track for films, especially when it has a lyrical masterpiece, would make the story and its characters more exciting and memorable. It’s also worth noting that a song will improve the recall of the movie which would greatly help in the overall sales of the film.

Metaphor for life
Singers or lyricists are innate artists, and artists always see things differently. They naturally have a deeper understanding of the things around them and they usually communicate the meanings they make artistically.

Speaking of metaphors, there can be a lot to pick up from the nature of gambling or betting to be analogized to life through music. One great example of that is the song from the music legend Kenny Rogers called The Gambler released in 1978.

The Gambler is a narrative about strangers who met on a train and then shortly had a conversation about poker and gambling being the same with life. Although the writer didn’t actually experience the scenario, he related it to the advice his father gave him before passing away.

The song was written by Don Schiltz which was already originally recorded by some singers before it was finally recorded and popularized by Kenny Rogers. The song made Rogers top the charts that year while the song is still widely popular even today.

No wonder, the song was a masterpiece, written and sung magnificently.

Music makes gambling more entertaining
There are plenty of reasons why music can affect your gambling experience (as frequently mentioned in this article) and make it more enjoyable.

For one, it affects your mood. There’s no question that music has control over your emotions, feelings and how you express them, and may therefore also affect and control how you play. Whether you play a soft melodious song or listen to rock and metal music, that can be up to you and such types of music make you feel while playing. That’s also the reason why it heightens your gambling desire.

On the other hand, what makes everything more enjoyable and entertaining is being immersed in anything you do where your focus will be centered around. And music definitely does that, it immerses you completely at the moment.

There are more reasons why singers and songwriters make gambling music and the items above are just some of the reasons why. Nonetheless, one cannot deny the importance of music in improving your casino gameplay.

So the next time you step into casinos, make sure you’ve already made a good music playlist that you’ll listen to while playing casino games. Also, make sure that you’re vibing the music and it’s something that boosts your mood. You should enjoy gaming as much as you enjoy your music.
