Minimum Computer Specs Needed
While they might not be the most ideal specs for your music production tasks, there are some minimum specs that you will need to ensure your PC has in order to run the software needed to produce music. However, bear in mind that just because your PC meets the minimum requirements, does not always mean that the performance will be good. The more RAM and CPU power you have, the more effects and virtual instruments you’ll be able to use at the same time. For producing music on your PC, you’re going to need a minimum of either an Intel Core I series or AMD Ryzen multi-core CPU, 8GB of RAM, and a 500GB hard drive.
Recommended Specs
If you can afford to do so, it’s always better to go with a computer that has better specs. This will provide more power and make it easier for you to get more done when producing music. You may be able to upgrade your current PC with a better processor and adding more RAM, for example. An ideal setup would include at least an Intel Core 3.5GHz i9 Eight-Core processor, 32GB of RAM, and a dual storage setup with a 1TB HDD and 1TB SSD. While built-in graphics are usually more than enough for music production, if you are also producing videos to go along with your music, or designing graphics for album covers, you might benefit from upgrading to a more powerful graphics card such as Intel® Arc™ Graphics at Lenovo.
Monitor Sizes
While it might not seem that important at first glance, the size of the monitor you’re using can have a big impact on your experience while producing music on your PC at home. For music production, the bigger the screen you can get, the better. If you can afford a dual-monitor setup, then this is definitely worth investing in as it will help you see more of your project and multitask much easier without having everything get cluttered up, which can happen quite easily. Setting up multiple monitors with large screens and viewing your project on all of them at the same time as one screen means that you can get work done faster, as you won’t have to scroll along the timeline each time you need to check something.
Whether you want to produce music for fun, as a business idea or a new career, getting the right PC specs is important to improve your workflow and ensure a great experience.
