There are certain things we all enjoy doing in our spare time. Listening to a beloved song is one of them and is a great way to relax or distract ourselves from everyday tasks. And how many of those songs have become iconic as a result of their connection to movies? It may not occur to us as we watch, but the soundtrack is among the most significant parts of the movie-going experience. The right music enhances our overall experience, evoking emotional responses and perhaps even inspiring a story on its own by elevating our senses and taking us into the world depicted on screen.

So, let's take a look at some of our favourites!

“Over The Rainbow” - Wizard of Oz
This beautiful ballad is ranked number one by the American Film Institute among all movie songs. Since Dorothy donned those ruby red slippers all those years ago, both the song and the film have cemented their place in history and are beloved by fans around the world across generations. The film has become a cultural icon, inspiring TV shows, plays, and even a Wizard of Oz slot game that allows you to be immersed in the story with the famous characters, all while listening to the iconic theme song.

Music is used everywhere to enhance our experience. Think of shopping, TV or radio ads, movies, and video games. The role of music is to make the experience as enthralling as possible. No matter what game you select or whether you choose to play at the best live dealer casinos online, you’re bound to find a song or playlist to complement your mood as you do so. There are demo versions available of the recommended live dealer casinos with comprehensive reviews of each one, including tips and guides, as well as many other games available to match your favourite music. And what about "Over the Rainbow"? Well, you might even find your own dreams coming true as you dare to go “all in”, just like the words from the song!

“Hedwig's Theme” - Harry Potter
Right away, we know that it is one of John Williams' brilliant works. Known as “Hedwig’s Theme”, it has become associated with the idea of magic and the wizarding world. Though it’s only instrumental and doesn’t have any lyrics for us to sing along to, this theme song never fails to create goosebumps and fill us with a sense of excitement and wonder, longing to be back at Hogwarts.

“I Will Always Love You” - The Bodyguard
In 1992, Whitney was already a bona fide music legend, but this song quickly became one of her most famous hits, thanks to its incredible high notes and impeccable delivery. A cover of a Dolly Parton song, the ballad made music history as the only country song to go number one in three consecutive decades. Within hours of Houston's death in 2012, the song topped the charts all over the world. When it comes to karaoke nights, this is usually at the top of the list!

“Lose Yourself” - 8 Mile
Few anticipated that the controversial rapper's autobiographical "8 Mile" would have such an impact on viewers when he took us through his tough upbringing in Detroit. The powerful beat in the first couple of seconds makes it impossible not to root for Eminem and all the kids trying to take hold of their lives in similar situations. There's also no way we can ignore the fact that this is the only song to win an Academy Award and to feature the lines "vomit on his sweater already, Mom's spaghetti," which is pretty special.

“My Heart Will Go On” - Titanic
Although you may not have watched "Titanic" in its entirety, you must have heard this song. One of the world's best-selling singles, this song has been known to everyone since it topped the charts in 1998. More than 20 years later, the song is still a staple on every karaoke list and wedding reception soundtrack in the whole world, reminding us that love conquers all. Maybe not a giant iceberg, though.

“You’ve Got A Friend In Me” - Toy Story
Known for his biting satire, Randy Newman has always been an excellent composer of soundtracks, and his feel-good song “You've Got A Friend In Me" for the Pixar movie Toy Story - became the series' theme. It first appears in the introduction to the original film, when the boy Andy plays with his favourite toy, Woody. It also appears again as a duet between Buzz and Woody. It truly is a feel-good song that brings all the warm feelings.

So next time you have to do that dreaded housework, stick on your favourite movie theme song and turn those boring chores into a fun, sing-along session!
