Introducing Cousin Tony’s Brand New Firebird, one of the hottest new exports to come out of Melbourne, Australia in recent years. Their debut UK single ‘Love is Heartbreak’ is out now, and the band are preparing to go on tour.

'Love is Heartbreak' is an ambitious, kaleidoscopic slice of alternative indie-pop that perfectly sets the scene for their forthcoming album’s thematic journey from heartbreak to recovery. The album will be released later this year.

The single was added immediately to Spotify's 'New Music Friday' (Aust/NZ) and 'Indie Arrivals' playlists, as well as Apple Australia's Best of The Week playlist. It was featured on Triple J's 'Home & Hosed' and added to rotation on Triple J’s Unearthed radio. Having amassed millions of streams for their debut album, as well as 4-5 star Unearthed reviews from the folks at Triple J, the band’s accolades sit alongside the praises of  fellow artists - like Matt Corby, Montaigne and Gang of Youths’ Dave Le’aupepe. It all looks like 2019 could well be the year that the ‘bird truly soars!

CTBNF is led by the band’s enigmatic singer/songwriter Lachy Rose, who says of the single, "Love is Heartbreak' is the first thing I wrote after the collapse of a very long relationship. While the title is a fairly intense assessment of love - I wanted to articulate that heartbreak isn’t really this new feeling, it’s still your love and adoration for this person - just without someone receiving it on the other end. Suddenly it’s unrequited. That sensation is devastating, but it became an important mantra for me that it was really all just love. To me, that’s really the overarching theme of the entire new album”. Lachy is supported in Cousin Tony by Francesca Gonzales, (vocals/keys) multi-instrumentalist Pete Simonsen, drummer Nick Reid and bassist Matt Hayes.

After securing fans across their native land with their epic live shows, the band is set to embark on their first UK and Ireland tour this May, including performing at the “Impressive By The Sea Day Party” at the Great Escape Festival (May 10th @ The Black Lion). UK tour dates to be advised soon.
